California Poppy Time - Antelope Valley Oil Painting by Karen Winters

"Poppy Time, Lancaster, California"

Original California poppy landscape oil painting
11 x 14 inches, oil on plein air panel

Very soon, the poppy fields of Lancaster, California will be in full bloom. The Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve is a wonder to behold, as long as it doesn't get too cold or breezy (then, the poppies close up, protectively.)

Yosemite Valley Oil Painting from Wowona Tunnel by Karen Winters

SOLD, but I have more Yosemite paintings, see links below.

This original artwork oil painting of Yosemite Valley is from the viewpoint of the Wowona Tunnel. It's a classic view, showing the sculptural beauty of El Capitan on the left, Half Dome in the center and Bridalveil falls on the right.

12 x 16 inches
Oil painting on canvas.

This is not a mass produced copy. It's an original oil painting by a California impressionist painter - my work is shown in museums all over the state.

California impressionist painting - Landscape Oil Painting - Gaviota Springtime - California Art Club Gold Medal Show 100th Anniversary 2011

Gaviota Springtime
11 x 14 oil on linen plein air panel
SOLD in the 100th Anniversary of the California Art Club
Gold Medal Show, 2011, Pasadena Museum of California Art

This painting was exhibited and sold at the Pasadena Museum of California Art in Pasadena, California. It was also featured in an editorial article in the April 2011 issue of American Art Collector magazine.

It represents a graceful eucalyptus tree, arching over a springtime meadow near the coastline town of Gaviota, north of Santa Barbara. This central coast California painting is in the spirit of the early California impressionist painters such as Granville Redmond and others, who captured the natural beauty of the state and were the founders of the California Art Club 100 years ago.

You can find more of my California landscape oil paintings on my website.

California impressionist landscape oil painting - Arroyo Seco, Pasadena

Snow on the San Gabriels
(Federal Courthouse with view of the Arroyo Seco)
12 x 16 oil on canvas

The winter storms, which may now be over, often leave rare snowcaps on our local mountains - for a few days. I took advantage of one of these unusual scenes last month. This is a view I have painted before, in the autumn when the sycamores are in full color - and will likely paint again through the years with different weather and seasonal looks.

California Art Club South Pasadena Paint Out - Rialto Visions

SOLD

"The Rialto"
9 x 12
plein air oil painting on panel

See more of my Pasadena paintings here

Last Sunday, a group of 30 or more plein air painters affiliated with the California Art Club gathered together in South Pasadena for a paint-out at the venerable Rialto Theater, which has fallen into disrepair in the past few years. The paintings which we created will be sold and a portion of the proceeds will go to restoring The Rialto to its former glory. Some of us also painted other scenes of South Pasadena, which I will be posting here and on My Gallery website.

I arrived at the event in the afternoon and caught the building in partial shade from across the street.

Although there were promos on the marquee for movies and theater rentals, I opted to leave it empty so that a potential purchaser could always imagine their favorite flick playing there, and relive some fond memories.
