Yosemite Falls, Summer

Yosemite is one of my favorite painting destinations. After painting numerous versions of the falls in a horizontal format (seeing the scope of the valley and meadow in the foreground,) I decided it was time to do a vertical painting featuring the upper falls. 

Yosemite Creek feeds the falls from the top, and after a fall of almost 2500 feet, the flow joins the Merced River.

Not this year, but perhaps next year, I hope to visit Yosemite in autumn to capture some of the dazzling color of the turning leaves.

Very soon, the poppy fields of Lancaster, California will be in full bloom. The Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve is a wonder to behold, as long as it doesn't get too cold or breezy (then, the poppies close up, protectively.)

In October 2010, I had the opportunity to paint the Colorado Street Bridge from the vantage point a little south of the Federal Courthouse on the east side of the Arroyo Seco, at a private home.

The late afternoon light grazing the bridge created a peaceful mood. The foreground oak tree provided a natural frame for the scene.
