Yosemite Falls Summer oil painting - Sierra Nevada Art

Yosemite Falls, Summer
Original 24 x 18 inch oil painting
on canvas

Yosemite is one of my favorite painting destinations. After painting numerous versions of the falls in a horizontal format (seeing the scope of the valley and meadow in the foreground,) I decided it was time to do a vertical painting featuring the upper falls.

Yosemite Creek feeds the falls from the top, and after a fall of almost 2500 feet, the flow joins the Merced River.

Not this year, but perhaps next year, I hope to visit Yosemite in autumn to capture some of the dazzling color of the turning leaves.

This painting is available for sale now. If you are in the Southern California area, you are welcome to see it in person, please write.

Eaton Canyon Stream - California impressionist landscape stream oil painting - plein air

"Eaton Canyon Stream" 9 x 12 inch oil painting
Eaton Canyon Nature Preserve, Altadena, California
(Near Pasadena)

Eaton Canyon, near Pasadena, California is a favorite plein air location for me. This painting shows the seasonal stream that runs through it in a "good" rain year. California live oaks grow along the banks, along with willows, sycamores and many other riparian California natives. Interested in this painting? Click this link to write me.

Quiet Day Carmel Bay oil painting, California seascape

Quiet Day, Carmel Bay
11 x 14 seascape oil painting

This is a painting of Carmel Bay, on the Monterey Peninsula, on a quiet day. I love to paint in this area - the sea shows so many different moods and the colors are constantly changing. The day I was there, the sea was like glass. Beautiful, colorful glass.

California Poppy Time - Antelope Valley Oil Painting by Karen Winters

"Poppy Time, Lancaster, California"

Original California poppy landscape oil painting
11 x 14 inches, oil on plein air panel

Very soon, the poppy fields of Lancaster, California will be in full bloom. The Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve is a wonder to behold, as long as it doesn't get too cold or breezy (then, the poppies close up, protectively.)

Pasadena Art: Colorado Street Bridge Landscape Painting - The Bridge Aglow

"The Bridge Aglow"
(The Colorado Street Bridge from a vantage point near the Federal Court of Appeals, Arroyo Seco)

11 x 14 inches
plein air painting

Click this link to write me.

In October 2010, I had the opportunity to paint the Colorado Street Bridge from the vantage point a little south of the Federal Courthouse on the east side of the Arroyo Seco, at a private home.

The late afternoon light grazing the bridge created a peaceful mood. The foreground oak tree provided a natural frame for the scene.
